Grapevine is an interactive recommender system that assists students in finding research advisors for their projects - from undergraduate capstone projects to PhD thesis work. It has been developed as a part of a research project sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Personalized Education program. The system combines ideas from the areas of exploratory search, user modeling, and recommender systems by employing state-of-the-art knowledge extraction, graph-based recommendation, and an intelligent user interface.
