A domain model (DM) in the adaptive educational systems field is traditionally understood to be any formal representation of knowledge about the domain. This model can serve various needs, not just personalized guidance. However, due to the special needs of personalized guidance, DMs used for personalized guidance have some common features. To examine the specific needs of personalized guidance, we need to understand how educational content is organized and which decisions have to be made to guide students to the most appropriate elements of this content.
